Students at Hilltop Elementary School participated in a glove drive, during which they collected new men’s winter gloves to be donated to The Dorothy Day House in Youngstown. The students brought the gloves to school Jan. 29 until Feb. 2.

The Dorothy Day House provides an evening meal, coffee, a safe place to relax, access to a shower, the opportunity to plant and harvest a garden and much more to those in need. Volunteers also provide a warm welcome with the offer of friendship and the promise of respect for everyone who walks through their doors.

In their classrooms, the students wrote kind notes and drawings that were then placed in each pair of gloves. This service project is one of many way students in Canfield give back to their community.
