MEN

No. 11 Florida State 85, Southeast Missouri 68

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.

Trent Forrest scored a career high 23 points and freshman Devin Vassell added 16 points as No. 11 Florida State overcame a sluggish first half and beat Southeast Missouri. Forrest shot 8 for 12 from the floor, and had a team-high eight rebounds and four assists to help the Seminoles (9-1) win their fourth straight. Ledarrius Brewer scored 16 points and Skyler Hogan added 14 points for Southeast Missouri (5-7). Southeast Missouri led 47-42 with 14:46 to go but Florida State went on a 12-0 run to take control for good. Florida State senior forward Phil Cofer played for the first time this season after missing nine games due to a preseason foot injury. Cofer didn’t have a point or rebound in five minutes.

Vanderbilt 81, No. 18 Arizona State 65

NASHVILLE, TENN.

Saben Lee scored 14 points to lead five players in double figures and sharp-shooting Vanderbilt beat No. 18 Arizona State. The Commodores had a big night from beyond the arc, hitting 6 of 12 from deep in the first half and 12 of 28 for the game. Aaron Nesmith added 13 points off the bench for Vanderbilt. Yanni Wetzell had 12, and Matt Ryan and Joe Toye had 11 each. Rob Edwards led Arizona State with 14 points. Luguentz Dort came in as the fourth-highest freshman scorer in the nation averaging 20.9 points, but he had just 10 points. Zylan Cheatham had 14 rebounds. Arizona State opened by scoring the first nine points as Vanderbilt missed its first six shots. After that, the Commodores finished the first half outscoring the Sun Devils 34-19, including an 18-3 run over the final 6:49. Edwards and Kimani Lawrence hit back-to-back 3s with 3:53 left to pull the Sun Devils within 62-59. Simisola Shittu answered with a layup, and Toye knocked down a 3 as Vanderbilt pushed the lead back to double digits.

WOMEN’S

No. 15 Syracuse 94, Niagara 45

SYRACUSE, N.Y.

Miranda Drummond scored 19 points and freshman Emily Engstler added a season-high 16, leading No. 15 Syracuse to a romp over Niagara. Syracuse (9-2) led for all but 10 seconds and had five players scoring in double digits. Tiana Mangakahia finished with eight points and 15 assists while Digna Strautmane had 12 points. Engstler also added nine rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocks. Niagara (3-7) shot just 26 percent and committed 35 turnovers. Jai Moore and Adila Gathers led the Purple Eagles with eight points each. The Orange had a program-record 31 assists and hit 15 3-pointers, led by Drummond with five. The game started at 11 a.m. as part of a school-day promotion and attracted a crowd of 6,093, third highest in program history.

No. 19 Marquette 93, Binghamton 40

MILWAUKEE

Isabelle Spingola scored all 24 of her points in the second half on eight 3-pointers, Allazia Blockton added 20 points and No. 19 Marquette beat Binghamton. Marquette (9-2) led 24-11 after the first quarter, with 12 points from Blockton, and opened the second on an 8-0 run for a 32-11 lead. Spingola was 8 of 10 from distance to tie the school record for makes with Hiedeman and Marquette made 14 3-pointers to tie the program record set in 1993. Blockton, Marquette’s all-time leading scorer, has 1,979 career points in 108 games, aiming to become the first Golden Eagle, male or female, to reach 2,000 career points. Rebecca Carmody, Binghamton’s leading scorer, was held to four points on 2-of-11 shooting.

No. 20 DePaul 95, Tennessee State 73

CHICAGO

Kelly Campbell and Mart’E Grays had 18 points apiece to help No. 20 DePaul beat Tennessee State. Campbell was 6-of-9 shooting and tied her career highs with five 3-pointers and six steals. Dee Bekelja made 6 of 6 from the field, including three 3s, and also scored 18 — her career best — for DePaul (8-3). Ashton Millender’s 3-pointer gave DePaul a 13-0 lead and Tennessee State missed its first nine shots. Tia Wooten’s layup to open the second quarter pulled TSU (0-11) within nine, but Chante Stonewall answered with a 3 and DePaul led by double figures the rest of the way. Taylor Roberts had 21 points and Wooten and Jazmine Young each scored 15 for the Tigers. TSU has lost 13 in a row dating to last season.
