YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society and the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor are sponsoring a guided walking tour of downtown Youngstown at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 that will focus on unique historic buildings.

The tour also will go inside the Wells building on West Federal Street to see how preservation and renovation combine.

The tour will be led by Donna DeBlasio of Youngstown State University’s history department. It will leave from the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St.

The event is part of the Ohio History Connection’s Ohio Open Doors Program, which invites the public to tour historic buildings and landmarks across the state between Sept. 7 and 16.

More than 200 organizations are presenting events in communities across the state, from a 214-year-old log house in Hamilton to Columbus’s 1920s-era Ohio Theatre and Canton’s imposing McKinley Memorial.

All Ohio Open Doors events are free, and most are special one-day-only opportunities.

The Ohio History Connection created Ohio Open Doors in 2016 to promote and inspire pride in Ohio’s heritage and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act.
