J-Milton football marks 70th season

Jackson-Milton football will mark its 70th season in 2018.
The school is hosting a celebration Sept. 21 before its home game against Sebring. Jackson-Milton football alumni, coach and cheerleaders will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
Pre-registration is required, and each person who signs up will be given free admission.
Check-in the night of the event will start at 5:20 p.m., with the ceremony starting at 6:10 and kickoff at 7.

OHSAA's Competitive Balance shut down

The Ohio High School Athletic Association was informed Wednesday that the Court of Common Pleas in Hamilton County has issued a temporary restraining order that prohibits the OHSAA from continuing to utilize a component of the Competitive Balance process that OHSAA member schools voted into place in 2014.
The court's TRO ruling was specific to the Tier 1 factor and specifically to St. Bernard Roger Bacon High School and the other members of its league - the Cincinnati Greater Catholic League's coed division. OHSAA member schools voted to have the Competitive Balance process apply to all member schools, both public and non-public.
The ruling doesn't affect regular-season schedules or contests, however the OHSAA had already announced the tournament divisional breakdowns for 2018-19 using Competitive Balance for the sports that it affects - soccer, volleyball, football, basketball, baseball and softball.
Duo shoots 140 to win Ohio Senior Amateur
GRANVILLE
Fifty-four players competed in the Ohio Senior Amateur-Senior Division and 30 players competed in the Ohio Senior Amateur-Super Senior division. Super Seniors are those 65 years of age and older and play a shorter tee than the Senior division.
TJ Brudzinski of Columbus won the 2018 Ohio Senior Amateur Champion with a score of 2-under 140 over two rounds.
Tom Elfers of Loveland won the 2018 Ohio Senior Amateur Super Senior Champion, shooting a 2-under 140 over two rounds.
Austin approves new stadium to land Crew
AUSTIN, TEXAS
The Austin City Council voted Wednesday to move ahead with a plan for a new, privately funded stadium on city land.
Columbus Crew owner Anthony Precourt has been courting Austin to potentially move the team since late 2017 and has sought a deal to build a 20,000-seat stadium on 24 acres of city property in time for the 2021 MLS season.
The 7-4 vote allows city staff to "negotiate and execute" a stadium plan with Precourt Sports Ventures. The final contract would not need a council vote.
Ohio and Columbus officials have also sued Precourt and MLS to stop or slow down the move. Ohio law requires teams that use tax-supported facilities and accept state financial assistance to give six months’ notice and give local investors a chance to buy the team. The law was enacted after the NFL's Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996.
Precourt declined comment on the pending litigation and declined to offer details on his planned move.
Alouettes' Manziel in concussion protocol
MONTREAL
Johnny Manziel was placed under the Canadian Football League's concussion protocol Wednesday.
The Montreal Alouettes quarterback was hit at the goal line last weekend in a 24-17 loss at Ottawa.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner struggled in his CFL debut against Hamilton, throwing four first-half interceptions, then was much better against the Redblacks.
The Alouettes are at Edmonton on Saturday night.
