Prostate screening

YOUNGSTOWN

Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, in support of its mission to improve the health of the community, is offering free prostate cancer screenings at several upcoming community events.

Prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood draws are available on a first-come, first-served basis to men 40 and older from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 during Panerathon at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown.

PSA blood draws and digital rectal exams are available from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Warren City Health Department, 258 E. Market St., Warren. To register, call 330-841-2596.

PSA blood draws are also available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23 during the Fuel the Fight Car Show at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., Boardman. Pre-registration is not required.

Health and Safety Day

LISBON

The Columbiana County Health District, Safe Kids Mahoning Valley and Akron Children’s Hospital are sponsoring the 2018 Columbiana County Health and Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the new Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, 400 N. Market St.

The free public event features children’s activities including: Explore a Lisbon Fire Department truck, Lisbon Police Department car and West Point Fire Department ambulance; enter a raffle for two kids’ bikes; choose a book to take home, and learn about the Reach Out and Read program; receive a bike helmet while supplies last, and other giveaways.

Parents can take advantage of car-seat safety checks and learn about emergency preparedness in the home. Health screenings for kids are: Body mass index for kids 2 and older; blood pressure checks for kids 10 and older; healthy eating/exercise tips; vision screening; and stress reduction exercises.

Hoffman joins Steward

YOUNGSTOWN

Northside Regional Medical Center and Steward Medical Group have added Interventional Cardiologist David Hoffman, D.O., to Steward Health Care System.

Dr. Hoffman brings decades of experience with a focus on heart catheterization, pacemaker implants, angioplasties, stress tests and electrocardiograms.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, Dr. Hoffman is an accomplished professor and researcher and has served as president of the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
