MVAC Showcase At Cene Park in Struthers
Springfield 3, Western Reserve 2
Shane Eynon scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth for the Tigers. Eynon singled, was sacrificed to second by Mitchell Seymour and scored when Drew Clark reached on an error. The Blue Devils had tied the score in the top of the sixth. Dom Velasquez led off with a single and Caleb Quinn followed with a single. Both both runners moved up on an error in the outfield. Dallas Smith hit a sacrifice fly and Ryan Slaven followed with an RBI double. Eynon had two hits for Springfield (9-2, 7-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference) and Chris Thompson had a double. Slaven singled and doubled for Western Reserve (6-4, 4-2) and Velasquez also had two hits.
Lowellville 15, Sebring 5
Lowellville put up five runs in the sixth inning. Cole Bunofsky, Austin Malutic, Bryan Harris and Francisco Rivera-Ocasio all drove in runs in the inning. Ricky Cutter was the winning pitcher. He surrendered four runs on seven hits over 42/3 innings, striking out four and walking one. Jason Higgins threw 11/3 innings in relief. Dylan Johnson started the game for Sebring. He allowed one hit and five runs over one inning. Nick Wellington went 2 for 2 to lead the Rockets. Sebring racked up 10 hits. Brandon Gray, Gabe Lanzer and Nick Weingart each collected multiple hits for Sebring.
Mineral Ridge 7, McDonald 5
Taylor Squiric and Wyatt Skrunk doubled in the Rams’ victory. Mineral Ridge trailed 1-0 after four innings, but scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to win it. The Rams also took advantage of four McDonald errors. Zach Nolf had a double for the Blue Devils.
Niles 12, Howland 1
HOWLAND
Ken Flanigan ripped four hits and drove in three runs and Joe Gallo had two hits and four RBIs as the Red Dragons routed the Tigers. Luke Swauger and Zach Leonard each had three hits for Niles, while Nick Guarnieri had two. Dillon Weida pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 for the Red Dragons.
Poland 6, Howland 3
HOWLAND
Braeden O’Shaughnessy and Zachary Yaskulka each drove in two runs and the Bulldogs snapped a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to beat the Tigers. Alex Barth scattered five hits and struck out two in a complete-game victory. Matt Horvat had two hits for Howland.
Girard 9-11, Newton Falls 5-1
GIRARD
Nick Malito, David Blackmon and Matt Miles each had two hits and Malito and Anthony Cortese each drove in two runs as the Indians beat the Tigers in the first of two games. Girard scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second. Shawn Leasure went the distance, allowing four hits, walking five and striking out four. Newton Falls scored all five of its runs in the sixth inning. Malito and Tyler O’Dell each had three hits and two RBIs in the second game and Aidan Warga and Matt Miles had two each as the Indians won big again. Blackmon pitched five shutout innings, struck out nine and allowed only one hit. Adam Honeycutt had two hits for the Tigers.
Canfield 13, Boardman 3
CANFIELD
Alex Hernandez and Spencer Woolley each had two hits and three RBIs and Anthony Longo pitched 41/3 innings and struck out three for the win as the Cardinals beat the Spartans. Ian McGraw, Angelo Petracci and Ricky Havrilla also had two hits each for Canfield. Havrilla drove in two runs. Luke Cardillo, Evan Knaus, Conner Miller and Cam Kreps each had two hits for Boardman.
Liberty 13-1, Mathews 3-9
VIENNA
Dwight Parker collected three hits and drove in two runs and scattered five hits for the Leopards (11-6) in the first game of a doubleheader. Billy Kocher had two hits and two RBIs for Liberty. Dan Canter and Jackson Iceman each had two hits for the Mustangs (9-3) in the loss. Canter and Andy Miller each had a double. Mathews dominated the second game as Chris Ritz had three hits and Andy Miller had two hits and three RBIs. Canter and Jake Miller each had two hits. Zach Rhodanz pitched a three-hitter and struck out five for the Mustangs.
South Range 5, Grand Valley 0
ORWELL
Sam Brooks picked up his third win of the season in a complete-game shutout. Brooks struck out four and walked a pair. Ben Rivera had two hits and two RBIs for the Raiders (6-8) and Jared Bajerski had three hits. Gordon Seger pitched 51/3 innings for Grand Valley (6-2). He walked four and struck out one.
South Range 7, Rootstown 0
ORWELL
Nick Habeth pitched six innings and struck out seven in his first win of the year. Brycen James and Josh Stear had three hits each for the Raiders (7-8). Stear had five RBIs and James drove in two. Rootstown starting pitcher Cameron Miller struck out one and allowed three runs in four innings. Nick Putnam pitched allowed four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Putnam struck out one and walked one in two innings.
Bristol 19, Southington 2
SOUTHINGTON
Winning pitcher Seth Mooney struck out four and walked one in tossing a two-hitter over five innings for the Panthers (4-4, 3-2 Northeast Athletic Conference). Landon Slusher had three hits, including two doubles. Andy Goelz and Dallas Robbins had two hits apiece. Slusher and Robbins each drove in four runs while Jeremy Miller had three RBIs.
Warren JFK 14-14, Hearland Christian 0-2
WARREN
Warren JFK scored six in the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader. The Eagles had 15 hits. London Hua had a double for JFK. Tim Klaben, Issac Hadley and Peyton Comer each had two RBIs for the Eagles. Heartland Christian was held to four singles. Warren JFK’s Cameron Hollobaugh struck out eight and walked one in 32/3 innings. Hua pitched 11/3 innings and struck out three. Heartland Christian’s Luke Rafferty walked two and struck out two in 12/3 innings. Warren JFK scored eight in the third inning of the second game. Heartland Christian’s Aaron Gault walked nine and struck out two in 22/3 innings. Warren JFK (5-5) walked 15 times. Peyton Comer pitched two innings for the Eagles. He walked one and struck out three. Heartland Tom Kling had a single and a double. Gault had a double and an RBI. Zach Labon drove in a run. JFK’s Issac Hadley had three hits, two doubles and a triple, and four RBIs. Comer had two singles and two RBIs.
Lisbon 5-7, East Palestine 1-6
LISBON
Lisbon (4-6) was led by Tyler Welsh with two hits and two RBI in game one of a doubleheader. Cam Summers pitched a complete game and struck out five to earn the win. In game two, Logan Bell struck out 13 for the Blue Devils, despite needing extra innings to ensure a sweep. Mason Rance led the Blue Devils with three hits and two RBIs.

LaBrae 12, Berkshire 2
NILES
LaBrae scored seven runs between the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to invoke the mercy rule at Eastwood Field. Damian Airwyke drove in four runs for the Vikings on two hits, including a triple. Same Wells, Zach Keller and Zach Morris all pitched for LaBrae. Wells got the win after striking out three and allowing a hit. Morris had five strikeouts. The Badgers got on the board after a two-run fifth inning.

WINDHAM
Gage Elzo tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking none. Mooney had three hits and two RBIs while Robbins had two hits and two RBIs. Slusher also had two hits.
SOFTBALL
Cardinal Mooney 15, Warren Harding 5
BOARDMAN
Junior Conchetta Rinaldi was 5 for 5 with a double, two home runs and five RBIs to lead the Cardinals (9-1). Lauren Frommelt had three hits and two RBIs, and CJ Sapp and Gia DiFabio had two hits apiece. Maddie Filisky improved to 3-0. Warren Harding’s Morris had two home runs and three RBIs.

LOWELLVILLE
Lowellville pitcher Maddie Kelly struck out 11 in a one hitter. Kelly also stole six bases, scored three runs and had an RBI. KC Kelly led the Rockets with three singles, an RBI and three runs scored. Olivia Sotlar had a single and a double with two RBIs and two run scored. Sierra Morales had the only hit for the Golden Bears.
Ursuline 14, Hubbard 0
AKRON
Emma Ericson pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven for the Irish (12-2). Ericson also hit a two-run single as Ursuline took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Julia Nutter hit a single and double and Jordyn Kenneally hit a two-run double in a nine-run second inning. Emily Holland added a two-run single. Jackie Adler and Makayla Smith had hits for Hubbard.
West Branch 18, Howland 1
HOWLAND
West Branch scored in every inning of its first game of the Toni Ross Spirit Jamboree at Howland Park. Peyton Alazaus had eight RBIs for the Warriors (10-0). Delaney Rito drove in three and Jordan Anderson had an RBI. Kylie Coffelt improved to 5-0 after striking out eight and allowing two hits in three hinnings. Anderson allowed a hit and struck out a pair in two innings.
West Branch 3, North Allegheny (Pa.) 0
HOWLAND
In its second game of the day, West Branch scored all three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kelsey Byers improved to 6-0 with her one-hit, 12-strikeout performance. Brooke Serbin got the only hit for North Allegheny (7-5). Alazaus drove in a run for the Warriors (11-0).

BERLIN CENTER
Marlie Applegarth and Jacqueline Kish combined to throw a four-hitter. Springfield (10-3, 7-2 MVAC) was limited to five hits. Makenzy Capouellez and Kish doubled. Gracie Wayland doubled for the Blue Devils (6-4, 4-2).
McDonald 6, Mineral Ridge 1
MCDONALD
McDonald pitcher Rachel Ward had nine strikeouts and a walk in the win. Ariel Leneve had seven strikeouts and three walks for the Rams. Megan Ward and Rachel Ward both had a double and a single. Sierra Schrader had two singles for the Blue Devils (5-1, 5-0 MVAC). Mineral Ridge managed just three hits, all singles.
East Palestine 11-8, Lisbon 5-4
LISBON
Kenzee Johnston led East Palestine with four hits and three RBIs in game one. Sara Buskirk added two hits and two RBIs. Autumn Oehlstrom hit for the cycle, driving in three runs. In game two, Taylor Hostetter and Maddee Foster had two RBIs each for the Bulldogs.
Brookfield 10, Pymatuning Valley 3
BROOKFIELD
Bailey Drapola had three home runs and six RBIs to keep the Warriors (8-0) unbeaten. Gabby Schiska got the win for the Warriors, striking out nine.
Columbiana 10-7, Maplewood 0-4
CORTLAND
Marisa McDonough won both games for Columbiana (8-4) as the starting pitcher. McDonough had five strikeouts in game one and six in the second game. Gabrielle Herdman homered for the Clippers in game one while Maci Linhart, Taylor Ross, Alexis Cross and Morgan Highley had two hits each. Linhart, Cross, Highley, and Ross had a repeat performance in game two, with two hits each. Linhart and Cross tripled and Cross drove in two runs. Kyle Konwalski had thee RBIs for Maplewood (8-5) in game two.

Christina Tucker had a double and a single for Fitch. Kayla Kelty, Lainie Simons, Ashley Mickey and Leeanna Franken all got hits.
