CLUBS
Friends of the Mahoning River will host a Sip and Paint from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Cost is $25 to complete a 16-by-25-inch Heron painting. One beverage is included. To register, call Susan at 330-718-3469.

LEAGUES
League of Women Voters of Trumbull County will host an open-to-the-public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the Howland Library, 9095 E. Market St. Guest speaker will be Iris Meltzer and will discuss the May primary and some issues on the ballot. The discussion will be followed by a question and answer period. Meltzer was a past president of the League of Women Voters – Kent and is now secretary for the League of Women Voters of Ohio. As a nonpartisan organization, the league’s main goal is to educate and increase understanding of major public issues. Membership information in the LWVTC also will be available to any person wishing to join.

Mahoning County Republican Party will host its annual Lincoln Day Dinner on May 1 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. The reception for sponsors starts at 5 p.m., social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30. William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will meet for "Memories of a Lifetime" at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz's Deli meeting room, 3135 Belmont Ave. Loretta Ekoniak, author of "Slovaks of the Greater Mahoning Valley," co-authored with Susan Summers, will present a program featuring the book. Program is open to the public. Admission is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers. Refreshments will be served and a 50-50 raffle will take place to benefit the society's education mission. Reservations are suggested. Walk-ins admitted, based upon seat availability.

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, will host a 13-week grief support series through the GriefShare ministry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays through May 1. The GriefShare team provides a safe, understanding place for individuals to move through their personal grief journeys. Participants need not be church members. Each session is self-contained, so participants may enter at any session. Each session will include videos featuring some of the nation's foremost experts on grief recovery. Sessions also include small group support and a workbook for personal study. Participants are welcome to share stories, but are never forced. Attendance at consecutive sessions is encouraged for maximum benefit. Cost is $20. Checks should be made payable to Good Hope. Scholarships also are available at registration. Grief is not a choice: it is a reality for every individual who has experienced a death. There is no timeframe for grief, and it appears when we least expect it. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support and education to people and families dealing with serious mental illness.
