Monday, April 16, 2018

YOUNGSTOWN — A man who led police on a chase that ended when he fell into a ravine had 60 grams of cocaine on him, according to a police report.

Jermaine McCree, 41, will face charges of possession of cocaine, fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.

Police stopped McCree Friday night when he failed to obey a stop sign at Thornton and Ohio avenues. Officers asked him to step out of the car after observing a bulge under a bulletproof vest on his passengers seat and he drove away, according to a police report.

McCree led officers to Redondo Avenue where he left his car and led officers on a foot pursuit.

He then fell into a ravine where officers reported finding him unconscious and bleeding from the head.

The bulge under the bulletproof vest was a bag containing 60 grams of cocaine, the report said. There had been reports of gunfire in the area where police initially stopped McCree.

He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon in Youngstown Municipal Court
