Joseph Meranto, the new superintendent of the Youngstown City Schools, was the speaker at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Youngstown. Meranto has enjoyed a long career in education, starting with the Diocese of Youngstown, where he was a teacher and administrator for more than 30 years. After retirement, Meranto started a second career with YCS, serving for 14 years as principal at Choffin Career and Technical Center before accepting the superintendent position. Meranto discussed the challenges facing the city schools, and the administration’s commitment to instruction and to both academic and life-skills development for the students in the district.
