Mercer County Amateur Radio Club welcomes Space Weather Woman, Dr. Tamitha Skov, as presenter at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Community College, (BC3) Linden Point, 107 College Drive, Butler, Pa. Skov is a new kind of weather forecaster for the modern world. The “Space Weather Woman” is widely known on social media such as You Tube, Twitter and Facebook. She has been on several television shows for The Weather Channel and The History Channel.
Niles and Youngstown Moose Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Edison Place Senior Apartments, 36 W. Church St., Niles, in the community room. All members are invited. GFWC/Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women's League is hosting its second Quarter Auction Oct. 21 at St. Nicholas Social Hall, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bidding starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10 each, and the proceeds will benefit local charities. Chips, popcorn, water and soda will be available for purchase. LIBRARY FRIENDS
Austintown Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the meeting room of the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road. Presentation is free and will host guest speaker William Farragher with talk on the decline and fall of the steel industry in the Valley. Refreshments will be pie, tea and coffee. Donations are accepted the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to noon at the entrance of the library. Items needed are books (no textbooks or encyclopedias), DVDs, CDs and current magazines. Sale of donated items support library programs.
Poland Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 3 for a potluck luncheon after the business meeting and speaker. Members are asked to take a salad or casserole. Officers will provide dessert. Debbie Liptak, development director of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be the speaker. The topic will be “All That’s New at the Library.” Donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for the Poland Library book cart may be brought to all meetings. Portage County Chapter 600 of International Parents without Partners will host a dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House pavilion, 109 West Ave., Tallmadge, to celebrate a country western theme. Menu includes sloppy joes, side dishes and dessert. Members and nonmembers are $5 per person. The monthly dance will follow from 7:30 to 11 p.m. with music provided by DJ Mel. PWP is a single parent support group, with one common point: members are all single parents, whether due to death, divorce, separation or having never been married.
