CLUBS

Mercer County Amateur Radio Club welcomes Space Weather Woman, Dr. Tamitha Skov, as presenter at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Community College, (BC3) Linden Point, 107 College Drive, Butler, Pa. Skov is a new kind of weather forecaster for the modern world. The “Space Weather Woman” is widely known on social media such as You Tube, Twitter and Facebook. She has been on several television shows for The Weather Channel and The History Channel.

Niles and Youngstown Moose Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Edison Place Senior Apartments, 36 W. Church St., Niles, in the community room. All members are invited. Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will have its first meeting of the season at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bruno’s Restaurant, 1984 Boardman Poland Road. Lunch will be served at noon. Jeanne Vild and Lori Brennan will be the hostesses. The group will catch up on summer activities and preview the plans and schedules for the 2017-18 year. Various groups will be reviewed: needlework, roundtowners, movie and book clubs. Newcomers was formed 25 years ago to offer those with lifestyle changes an opportunity to meet new people and become acquainted with events and places in the community. LEAGUES

GFWC/Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women's League is hosting its second Quarter Auction Oct. 21 at St. Nicholas Social Hall, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bidding starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10 each, and the proceeds will benefit local charities. Chips, popcorn, water and soda will be available for purchase. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Austintown Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the meeting room of the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road. Presentation is free and will host guest speaker William Farragher with talk on the decline and fall of the steel industry in the Valley. Refreshments will be pie, tea and coffee. Donations are accepted the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to noon at the entrance of the library. Items needed are books (no textbooks or encyclopedias), DVDs, CDs and current magazines. Sale of donated items support library programs.

Poland Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 3 for a potluck luncheon after the business meeting and speaker. Members are asked to take a salad or casserole. Officers will provide dessert. Debbie Liptak, development director of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be the speaker. The topic will be “All That’s New at the Library.” Donations of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for the Poland Library book cart may be brought to all meetings. Meetings are open to the public, and new members are welcome. Annual dues are $10.

POLITICAL CLUBS

Canfield Republican Women's Club dinner meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. John Williams will be the guest speaker. Williams will speak on Article V (Convention of States) of the U.S. Constitution, and why the Founders believed that it was important. Some local candidates will make an appearance as well. SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet as follows: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Care, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman; 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Education Building, 251 S. Codependency and Grief Support Group will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Sheepfold Ministries, 233 North Ave. Sharon, Pa. A meeting also will take place at 7 p.m. at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main St., Hubbard. Group sessions are free, but participants must register to participate. Friendship Train 12-Step Support Group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave. People who are trying to overcome any addiction are welcome and encouraged to attend. Those attending should enter through the church’s lower parking lot off Wardle.

NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and Austintown Family Support Group, 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. Portage County Chapter 600 of International Parents without Partners will host a dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House pavilion, 109 West Ave., Tallmadge, to celebrate a country western theme. Menu includes sloppy joes, side dishes and dessert. Members and nonmembers are $5 per person. The monthly dance will follow from 7:30 to 11 p.m. with music provided by DJ Mel. Monthly dances are open to the public, and nonmembers are invited. Cost for members $6 and nonmembers $8. PWP is a single parent support group, with one common point: members are all single parents, whether due to death, divorce, separation or having never been married. The chapters are mainly an educational and family support group, but are active in other endeavors. The members take time to have fun, not only with other adults, but also with their children. TOPS 327 is seeking new members who want to Take Off Pounds Sensibly. Meeting will take place Monday at Christ Church Presbyterian, 1933 Canfield Road, Boardman.
