RMHC to host third

annual race Sunday

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley and Western Pennsylvania. will kick off the third annual McD’s 5K Sock Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run on Sunday in downtown Youngstown, starting at Federal Street. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; the McD’s 5K Sock Run/Walk starts at 9:00; and the free Kids Fun Run is at 11:00. For more information or to register online, visit www.McdsSockRun.org.

The day will be filled with prizes and family-friendly activities including OH WOW’s Silly Science Sunday. The top male and female finishers in the 5K race will receive a signature McD’s Sock Run Citizen Eco-Drive Watch.

All proceeds from the McD’s 5K Sock Run/Walk will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley & Western PA. Event sponsors include Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley and Akron Children’s Hospital. Media sponsors include WKBN and WHOT-FM.

The mission of the RMHC is to help youths in the Mahoning Valley and western Pennsylvania by assisting with funding for health education programs that positively impact youths up to age 21.

Concert will honor

Constitution Day

First United Methodist Church of East Liverpool, 200 W. Fifth St., will host patriotic music for solo organ and piano at 7 p.m. Monday.

The program will feature members of the Youngstown Chapter of the American Guild of Organists joining talents in a musical concert commemorating Constitution Day.

The concert is free and the public is welcome. Light refreshments will follow the program.

Shirley Bartlett to visit

WW II Heritage Group

Shirley Bartlett will speak to members of the World War II Heritage Group at 6:15 p.m. Monday at Ala Carte Catering, 429 Lisbon St. The speech will be preceded by a buffet dinner at the cost of $14. Reservations are required by calling David Frank at 330-757-0515 before Friday.

Bartlett will recount her memories as a young girl watching her two brothers go off to war. This is a unique view of the war through the eyes of a child. Originally from Michigan, Bartlett was one of five children, two brothers and two sisters. She is now a resident of our area with an interesting story to tell.

Parents whose child will soon be baptized are welcome to attend a special Parent Preparation Class at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Rosetta Hall at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St. Call the parish office at 330-545-4351 to pre-register for the parent baptismal class.

NAMI hosts series

on mental illness

NAMI Mahoning Valley will start its Fall Family To Family educational program from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at Valleycare Hospital (Old Northside), Building A, room B , 500 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown.

This is a 12-week educational program about mental illness targeting family members and friends of individuals with mental illness. Its main focus is on support of the family and includes diagnosis, symptoms, medication, advocacy, communication skills and problem solving.

The course meets one hour a week for 12 weeks and is taught by two NAMI trained individuals who have a family member with a mental illness. For information, contact staff@namimv.org or call 330-727-9275.
