Poland Dobbins Elementary School threw a tailgate party for their students before Poland Seminary High School’s second football game of the season on Sept. 1.

The Dobbins PTO organized the event to celebrate the beginning of school and to support their football team.

PTO president Jacey Henderson explained that she wanted to welcome the students back to school while giving them entertainment. The tailgate included an area for face painting, snacks and a live DJ from Music Man DJ services. They also had cheerleaders and the Poland bulldog mascot at the event.

The tailgate took place on the side yard of the school building and ran from 5 p.m. until kickoff at 7 p.m. After the tailgate, the students walked to the high school across the street. The event received more than 400 RSVPs from both students and parents. The PTO organized everything at the event and all of the many helpers were members of the PTO.

The event also gave students opportunities for food and other items. Members of the PTO handed out water while others cooked hotdogs. The Kona Ice Truck set up in the yard and offered students shaved ice. The tailgate had a snack table with bags of chips. The students or parents could buy Poland apparel at another table. They had a raffle organized so that students and parents could win gift cards or a gift basket.
