The Canfield Village Middle School seventh-grade football team opened their 2017 season with a 24-8 victory over host Alliance.

Canfield struck paydirt on its first series, driving 65 yards in seven plays keyed by a 40-yard run by Ryan Schneider to the Aviator 10. Schneider punched it in from a yard out two plays later to give Canfield a 6-0 advantage. Quarterback Broc Lowry found Gavin Ramun in the left corner for the conversion to make it 8-0.

After forcing Alliance to punt, Canfield drove to the Alliance 20 where Lowry was picked off by an Aviator defender. Lowry was able to run down the interceptor and strip the ball giving Canfield possession at its own 30. Canfield then drove the length of the field with Lowry finishing the drive by racing 12 yards on an option play for six. Lowry then hit tight end AJ Havrilla for the 2-point conversion and a 16-0 halftime lead.

Canfield increased their lead to 24-0 when Caden Kohout raced 18 yards through the Alliance defense for the touchdown and Lowry found Jack Fabry for the conversion. Alliance scored in the waning moments for the final score.

Coach Donadee cited the strong line play of AJ Murphy, Evan Parker, Michael Howard, Augustine DiMartino and Jimmy Scharrer as a key to the victory.
