Hannon to speak to Curbstone Coaches
BEAVER TOWNSHIP
Bob Hannon, president of The United Way of Youngstown and radio voice of Youngstown State football, will be the guest speaker at Monday’s luncheon meeting of The Curbstone Coaches at the Avion Banquet Center.
The event begins at noon and the public is welcome to attend.

YSU’s Brown records her 1,000th kill
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY.
Senior Sam Brown became the 13th player in Youngstown State volleyball history to record 1,000 career kills in the Penguins’ loss Saturday at Northern Kentucky.
Brown’s milestone kill came on a tip from setter Libbie Darling that made the score 10-9 in the first set. The Penguins lost that first set 25-23, and the Norse proceeded to beat YSU 25-22 in each of the final two sets.
Brown matched her season high with 13 kills, and she had just one error in 27 attempts for a .444 attack percentage. She finished the day with 1,010 kills, which ranks 11th in YSU history.
Fellow senior Lauren Blanco notched 27 digs, which is the most ever by a Penguin in a three-set rally-scoring match. Sarah Varcolla added nine kills and seven blocks.
Phantoms fall to Lumberjacks
MUSKEGON, MICH.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored three times in the first two periods en route to Saturday’s 5-2 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms.
Eric Esposito and Max Ellis scored third-period goals for the Phantoms. Andrew Petrillo assisted on the Esposito goal.
In net, Wouter Peeters started and gave up the first three goals. Ivan Prosevtov took over. The Lumberjacks’ final goals were scored with the net empty.
Scourge holding open tryouts

The Western Reserve Scourge, a minor league football team that plays in the OFL, is holding open tryouts at Youngstown State’s WATTS Center on Nov. 26.

Browns analyst to miss London game
CLEVELAND
Former Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Doug Dieken didn’t travel with the team to London and will miss his first broadcast in nearly 30 years.
Dieken was hospitalized this week with an undisclosed illness, preventing him from accompanying the Browns for today’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, the team’s first regular-season international game.
One of the most durable players in franchise history, Dieken has been part of the club’s radio team since 1985 after his 14-year career ended. He last missed a game in 1989.
Dieken made 194 consecutive starts for the Browns from 1971-84 and played in 203 games.
OKC Thunder’s plane hits a bird
CHICAGO
Delta Air Lines says a charter flight carrying the Oklahoma City Thunder from Minneapolis to Chicago apparently encountered a bird early Saturday when it was landing, causing damage that prompted some players to post photos on social media showing the caved-in nose of the plane.
Carmelo Anthony, Josh Huestis, and Steven Adams all posted photos of the plane shortly after it landed around 12:45 a.m.
Anthony wrote on Instagram , “What possibly could we have hit in the SKY at this time of night? Everyone is Safe, Though.”
Adams’ Twitter post said , “We had a rough flight to say the least.”
Huestis wrote on Twitter, “I guess we hit something? 30,000 feet up...”
