GIRARD

The age-old questions, “Who am I and where did I come from?” prompts people of all nationalities, races and cultures to research family history. Some of the area’s most experienced genealogists will be on hand to give one-on-one help from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the annual Roots Tech Family Discovery Day at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2205 Tibbetts-Wick Road. The event is free and open to the public.

Yolonda Van Dyne, chairwoman of the event, said participants will get hands-on experience. It is an event geared for families, and there will be classes for all ages, including children and teens. A continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided. Registration is encouraged. Sign up at www.lds.org/familydiscoveryday. Click on “find an event.” Type in city and state to get a list of events. Then click on “register here.”

There will be computers to use and ample bandwidth to use the church Wi-Fi. Van Dyne said attendees should bring laptops, tablets and other electronic devices. Participants will learn how to set up a free account and navigate on FamilySearch, learn about the latest genealogy apps and much more.
