ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women, Youngstown branch, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., for a brief business meeting before attending a 6 p.m. public forum on education at the church. The forum will be led by the education committee of the Youngstown League of Women Voters to explore what the values and purpose of the public education system are and the effects of charters and vouchers on public education.

BOOSTERS

Girard High School Athletic Boosters will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the high school.

CLASSES

Campbell Memorial Class of 1963 will meet for lunch at noon Wednesdayat Stonebridge Restaurant, 1497 Boardman Canfield Road in Boardman. Guests are welcome.

CLUBS

Boardman Lions Club will host its first Celebrity Bartender fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Carmella’s Cafe, 805 E. Western Reserve Road, Suite 8. Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will be the celebrity bartender. All tips raised will be used locally in the Boardman community.

McDonald Lions Club will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday on the second floor of the Woodland Park Retirement Center, 550 Ohio Ave.

Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will meet Oct. 25 at Cafe Augustine in the Newport Library, 3730 Market St. Social gathering is at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. There will be a select menu, and hostesses are Pat Marshall and Jean Callahan. Traci Manning of the Ohio Historical Society will speak on past clothing styles in Mahoning County. Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club will have its monthly meeting Tuesday at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road in Cornersburg. Dinner will start at 6 p.m. with the meeting following at 7. Guest speaker will be Bob Naumann, W50V, National sales manager for DX Engineering, and the topic for discussion will be the club’s second year of participation providing voluntary communication services to the annual Youngstown Peace Race. COUNCILS

Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. will have its monthly meeting Saturday at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road. Executive board meets at noon, and the general meeting is at 1 p.m. Members are asked to bring gift baskets for the annual membership luncheon and auction set for Oct. 21, Also, bring proceeds from ticket sales and a count of tickets sold. Committee members for the free “Hats Off to Seniors” luncheon in December are asked to wear black and the NCNW scarf for a photo at 2 p.m.

GROUPS

Salem Public Library Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St., to discuss the characters in “Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening: How I Learned the Unexpected Joy of a Green Thumb and an Open Heart,” by Carol Wall. St. Patrick Altar Guild will host a card party/bingo/salad buffet event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at St. Patrick Social Hall, 1420 Oak Hill, Youngstown. Tickets are $6 at the door. There is a handicap-accessible ramp and elevator on the south side of the church. There is also a secured parking lot.

LEAGUES

The GFWC/Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women's League is hosting its second Quarter Auction on Oct. 21 at Saint Nicholas Social Hall, 764 Fifth Street, Struthers. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bidding starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10 each, and the proceeds will benefit local charities. Chips, popcorn, water and soda will be available for purchase. POLITICAL CLUBS

Trumbull County Republican Party will meet for its monthly breakfast gathering at 9 a.m. Oct. 21 at the Girard Multigenerational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave. A continental breakfast will be provided. Central and executive committee meetings will be held in conjunction with the breakfast.

SERVICE CLUBS

The Canfield Lions Club will meet on Thursday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Tony DeLuke, 2nd vice district governor.

SOCIETIES

Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Church Ministry building, 7325 Westview Dr., Boardman. Speaker will be Gene R. Allison (White Eagle) and will discuss his book, “Indians of the North East.” Handicap accessible. Open to the public.

Friendship Train 12-Step Support Group meets from 6 to 7 p.m., which is a new time, Wednesdays at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave. People who are trying to overcome any addiction are welcome and encouraged to attend. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers its Peer to Peer Class from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Northside Hospital, 500 Gypsy Lane, Medical Office Building A, Classroom A. It is an eight week educational program open to adults diagnosed with mental illness. There will be lectures, discussions, exercises and stress management techniques taught.
