ASSOCIATIONS

Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will meet Tuesday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St. in Canfield. Networking will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30. Cindy Best of Howard Hanna Real Estate will speak about how she got started in the business and the current trends in the real-estate world. The menu will include Southern-baked chicken, Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, salad, gelatin, applesauce and apple cake. The cost is $18.

Tri-Gold Prime Time Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will meet Wednesday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. CLUBS

Boardman Lions Club will host its first Celebrity Bartender fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 16 at Carmella’s Cafe, 805 E. Western Reserve Road, Suite 8. Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will be the celebrity bartender. All tips raised will be used in the Boardman community.

Mahoning Valley Stamp Club will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Highway Tabernacle, 3000 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown. The club meets the second Thursday of each month.

McDonald Lions Club will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 14 on the second floor of the Woodland Park Retirement Center, 550 Ohio Ave.

Niles and Youngstown Moose Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Edison Place Senior Apartments, 36 W. Church St., Niles, in the community room. All members are invited. Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. will have its monthly meeting Oct. 14 at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road. LEAGUES

The GFWC/Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women's League is hosting its second Quarter Auction on Oct. 21 at Saint Nicholas Social Hall, 764 Fifth Street, Struthers. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bidding starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10 each, and the proceeds will benefit local charities. Chips, popcorn, water and soda will be available for purchase. D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. SOCIETIES

Girard Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Barnhisel House, 1011 N. State St.

Niles Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Westenfield Room. Plans are being made for the 2018 calendar, which will feature historical pictures of Niles and will be sold for $10. Calendars may be reserved by calling 330-652-8329.

Springfield Historical Society will host its last presentation of the year at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting house at 14118 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, Petersburg. Clyde Foor and company will be available to give general information of antiques or unusual items that attendees bring to have appraised like a mini “Antiques Road Show.” There is no cost to attend.

St. Rose Church Mount Carmel Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the lower church.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet as follows: 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2305 S. Canfield Niles Road; Austintown; 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman. Family members and caregivers are welcome. All meetings are offered at no charge. Codependency and Grief Support Group will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Sheepfold Ministries, 233 North Ave. Sharon, Pa. A meeting will also take place at 7 p.m. at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main St., Hubbard. Group sessions are free but participants must register to participate. Friendship Train 12-Step Support Group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. (note the new time), Wednesdays at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave. People who are trying to overcome any addiction are welcome and encouraged to attend. Those attending should enter through the church’s lower parking lot off Wardle.

NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and Austintown Family Support Group, 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. NAMI Connection, a support group for people with a mental health diagnosis meets at the following locations: 1:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown; 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays at Alta Care in Austintown; and NAMI Connection for the dual diagnosed at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers its Peer to Peer Class from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Northside Hospital, 500 Gypsy Lane, Medical Office Building A, Classroom A. It is an eight week educational program open to adults diagnosed with mental illness. There will be lectures, discussions, exercises and stress management techniques taught. Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 8401 Market St., Boardman, Azalea Room. The ostomy support group provides a safe, caring place to tell your story among people who understand and share your experiences and feelings. John Welch, a Pacific World War II Navy veteran will speak on his experiences which led to four bronze stars for his service. His speech will be preceded by a $14 buffet dinner.
