AUSTINTOWN

The Sheetz at state Route 46 and Mahoning Avenue will be closing temporarily later this summer while it undergoes remodeling.

The updated store will have the look and feel of a newer store, with indoor and seasonal outdoor seating, an upgraded kitchen and more parking, a spokesman for Sheetz said.

The store is scheduled to close in August and reopen in October, but those dates are subject to change.

Blueprints show that the island of gas pumps along Mahoning Avenue will be removed, and a fifth pump will be added to the island along state Route 46. There also will be new landscaping along Mahoning Avenue.

The new building will use the existing South and East walls and occupy 5,850 square feet.

Employees will be reassigned temporarily to other stores during that time, the spokesman said.

Construction crews already are on the site of a future Sheetz at state Route 46 and Clarkins Drive.

The site is occupied by a former Burger King and car wash, which will be demolished.

The new Sheetz is expected to open in late fall or early winter, the spokesman said.

“I think the community is going to like it,” said Austintown Zoning Inspector Darren Crivelli. “It’ll be a nice redevelopment.”
