Notre Dame grads walk out on Pence
SOUTH BEND, IND.
Dozens of graduates and family members silently stood and walked out Sunday as Vice President Mike Pence began his address at Notre Dame’s commencement ceremony.
Pence, the former governor of Indiana, was invited to speak after Notre Dame students and faculty protested the prospect of President Donald Trump being invited to become the seventh U.S. president to give the commencement address.
Pence spoke briefly of Trump, praising his speech to the leaders of 50 Arab and Muslim nations earlier in the day in Saudi Arabia.
Video shows sea lion grabbing girl at pier

A college student has startling video of a sea lion snatching a girl off a dock and yanking her into the water on Canada’s West Coast.
It happened Saturday in Richmond, a Vancouver suburb. University student Michael Fujiwara tells CBC News that people started feeding the animal breadcrumbs.
In Fujiwara’s video , the sea lion pops up toward the girl as bystanders laugh. Then she sits by the pier’s edge. In an instant, the massive mammal shoots up, grabs her dress and pulls her into the water. The sea lion disappears as a man plunges into the water and helps the girl out. She doesn’t appear injured and walks away with adults.
Marine mammal expert Andrew Trites says the sea lion presumably thought the dress was food.
Turkey’s ruling party elects Erdogan to lead

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan returned as leader of Turkey’s ruling party Sunday, pushing back criticism that his tenure has curtailed freedoms and polarized the country as he vowed to serve the nation and combat terror.
The Justice and Development Party, or AK Party, re-elected Erdogan, its co-founder, at a congress where he was the only candidate for chairman. A narrow victory in a referendum last month to expand the powers of the Turkish presidency allows him to be both the head of state and of a political party.
American climber dies on Everest

An American climber has died near the summit of Mount Everest and an Indian climber is missing after heading down from the mountain after a successful ascent, expedition organizers said Sunday.
Roland Yearwood, 50, from Georgiana, Ala., died on the mountain Sunday but other details were not immediately known, said Murari Sharma of the Everest Parivar Expedition agency, based in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital.
Indian climber Ravi Kamar fell sick on his way down from the summit Saturday and did not make it to the nearest camp, while his accompanying Nepalese Sherpa guide made it to a camp, said Thupden Sherpa of Arun Treks and Expedition.
Brazilians call for president to resign

Brazilians staged demonstrations Sunday calling for their president to step down after the supreme court opened an investigation into allegations he endorsed the payment of hush money to a jailed former lawmaker.
The accusations against President Michel Temer have plunged Latin America’s largest nation into crisis yet again, sending its currency and stocks plummeting and stalling a series of reforms designed to pull the economy out of a protracted recession. It’s been just a year since Temer took over as president after the impeachment and removal of his predecessor, Dilma Rousseff.
Now, the calls are growing for Temer himself to be impeached or resign. On Sunday, several hundred people called for Temer to leave office.
