Motorcycle accident kills 1, injures 1

YOUNGSTOWN

One passenger was killed and a second hospitalized when the motorcycle on which they were riding east on the Madison Avenue Expressway was involved in an accident about 5:53 p.m. Wednesday just east of the state Route 193 and U.S. Route 422 interchange.

The person killed was a white male. The injured person was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Police did not identify either of the victims. Mahoning County Coroner’s Office personnel arrived at the scene about 7:40 p.m.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known, police said, but the pavement was dry and it did not occur in a construction zone. The eastbound lanes of the expressway were shut down for a period of time.

Police seek help with finding missing woman

WARREN

The Warren Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a 24-year-old city woman deemed a missing person possibly in danger.

The woman, Elaine Shumate, was last seen May 3 by her family, who believe she is in still in the city.

Shumate is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 150 pounds and has a tattoo across her chest that reads “Will Hunt.”

Hearing for teen accused in shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

A probable-cause hearing will take place July 6 in Mahoning County Juvenile Court for a 14-year-old accused of a robbery and shooting in February where a woman was shot in the eye in her driveway.

Jhamiere Clarke has been in the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center since his arrest in the Feb. 6 attack on Ellen Zban, 57, in the driveway of her Powersdale Avenue home. Police said Zban was wounded in the eye as she was in her car during a robbery gone awry.

A hearing was to take place Wednesday to determine if Clarke was to be bound over to common pleas court and tried as an adult, but the attorneys in the case decided instead to have the probable-cause hearing.

3 at Taft put on leave

YOUNGSTOWN

Three employees at Taft Elementary School on the South Side have been placed on administrative leave, said Denise Dick, Youngstown City Schools spokeswoman.

Two of the employees are administrators, Dick said.

The names of the employees and the reasons for the leave have not been released.
