WARREN

The U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitives Task Force arrested Shawn Johnson in Detroit on Thursday afternoon in connection with a Dec. 2 Warren murder.

Detective Nick Carney of the Warren Police Department said it is likely that Johnson, 49, will have an extradition hearing next week that will determine how soon he will be returned to Trumbull County.

He’s charged in the murder of John P. Kellar, 41, of Niles at a home on Stephens Avenue Northwest. Johnson has ties to the Detroit area, police said. Kellar’s death was ruled a homicide as a result of one or more gunshot wounds.

Police learned of the homicide when Kellar’s fiancee, 22, went to a house on West Market Street around 7 p.m. Dec. 2 and asked the home-owner to call 911. During the call, Kellar’s fiancee said she’d been abducted from the Stephens address by a man named Shawn who had shot someone at the house. The woman said she got away while the man was at Rocky’s AM PM Food Mart on West Market Street.

Johnson also had taken another woman from the Stephens address, Alicia Binion, 36. She came back to Warren and went to see police about three weeks later.
