Poland Shepherd of the Valley celebrated the grand opening of their new 26,000 square foot skilled nursing and rehabilitation center on Feb. 12.

The new unit was designed with the residents in mind and tailored to suit to their needs. The new unit includes three wings with 32 bedrooms, family centers, an outdoor patio, a happy hour lounge and a chapel. All of the bedrooms are private and have a private full bathroom.

One of the most anticipated rooms is the therapy suite. The suite includes a pool with a treadmill in it for aquatic therapy, different gym equipment and other equipment to help with physical therapy treatment and rehabilitation.

Leroy’s Lounge has been one of the favorites among residents and staff. The lounge was named after resident Leroy Bartelmay, who had passed away. LeRoy’s brother, Merton, had decided to move into Poland Shepherd of the Valley with his brother. Shortly before Merton had moved in, LeRoy passed away. Merton decided to purchase the naming rights to the longue and dedicate it to LeRoy.

There was a ribbon cutting on Feb. 9 for the residents and faculty of Shepherd of the Valley. Around 200 people showed up to the ribbon cutting and had the opportunity to take a tour of the new building addition.

Shepherd of the Valley worked with DeSalvo Construction and was able to get the project completed in less than a year. The addition created new job opportunities for people to apply for as well as current staff getting the opportunity to be promoted.

“I can’t believe how fast they were able to build it. I’d be here on a Tuesday and then I’d come back on Thursday and the building was completely different,” said Danielle Procopio, Director of Marketing, Sales and Communication.

The opening of the new addition has been exciting for not only Shepherd of the Valley residents and staff, but for those with family members who are interesting in becoming part of the Shepherd of the Valley family.
