Katie Burdette, Youngstown State University junior student and intern at 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, has received the first scholarship from the Association of Professional/Administrative Staff.

To receive the $250 scholarship, Burdette had to be enrolled at least half-time and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Priority is given to students who are dependent, according to the scholarship guidelines.

“Katie is an excellent student and is super involved in the university,” said Molly Burdette, Katie’s mother and a YSU senior academic adviser. “She is living the life I want to live.”

Ed Villone, APAS president and police academy commander, called the scholarship award “quite a labor of love.”

Katie Burdette said she enjoys being the first recipient of a scholarship that represents an organization caring about students.

“I think it’s great that the union members came together to raise money for students to put to great use,” she said. “I plan to use my award to further my education as I go into my final year at YSU.”
