Austintown Elementary School students enjoyed a special breakfast and lunch on March 2 in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Food service director Tascin Brooks and her food service staff created a unique breakfast and lunch for the students to eat. For breakfast the students had things like green eggs and ham, toast and jam and several other fun items. For lunch there was hop on pop-corn chicken, birthday Seuss apple Seuss and much more.
The students have been looking forward to their lunch and breakfast meal all week.
“We had about 50 more kids who than we normally have this morning that came to breakfast,” said Cindy Todd, food service faculty.
Students who came to breakfast received a Dr. Seuss pencil with their breakfast. Those who bought a lunch had their name entered into a drawing. From each lunch period, there will be three names picked making a total of 12 winners. Those 12 students will win a Dr. Seuss pillowcase made by Todd.
This is the third year that Todd has worked to put on the Dr. Seuss lunch at AES.
“We try to have fun with it. We try to do something a little different every year,” said Todd.
The food service staff is always trying to make nutrition fun for the students and come up with new ideas for the students to enjoy and look forward to.
