Boardman and Canfield choirs perform with YSO

The Canfield High School choirs, under the direction of Kelly Scurich, as well as the Boardman High School choirs, under the direction of Linda Smrek, will be performing with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Randall Fleischer, as they present the “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi. The performance is scheduled for March 25 at 8 p.m. at the DeYor Performing Arts Center in Youngstown. Ham loaf sale

Boardman United Methodist Church, located at 6809 Market St, in Boardman, will once again be selling their delicious ham loaves on April 4 starting at 1 p.m. and lasting until they are sold out. The loaves will be sold in packages of six for $15. There will be no pre-orders.

Pulled pork dinner to be April 1

Bethel Lutheran Church will be hosting a fundraising pulled pork dinner on April 1 from 4-7 p.m. This is to benefit the Mikey Schuster Scholarship Fund. Tickets for adults are $10 and $4 for children. The menu includes pulled pork, baked beans, cheesy potatoes, cole slaw, buns, drink and desserts. There is also an alternate menu for children including hot dogs, tater tots and applesauce. Tickets go on sale on March 5.

Acupuncture happy hour

Newcomers Club meeting to be March 22

A March luncheon is being planned by Newcomers of Mahoning Valley. They will be meeting on March 22 at Davidson’s Restaurant in Austintown at 11:30 a.m. for greeting and socializing. Someone from the Veteran’s Administration will be speaking about what they do to help the veterans of this country. The members will be donating toiletries and non-perishable food to be given and distributed to needy veterans by the VA. They will also be presenting the nomination of officers for 2017-18 to be voted on next month. Other activities planned for the membership is a birthday luncheon, needlework, book club, movie group and Roundtowners. They welcome anyone who is looking to learn more about the community and interested in forming new friendships. Anyone may join, especially if you’ve had a change in your life and would like to try something that can be stimulating and worthwhile. It’s all about yarn

Bring in your crochet, knitting, plastic canvas or “anything with yarn” project and learn from one another at the Boardman library on March 17 at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring all yarn UFOs (unfinished objects).

Using Genealogy databases and websites

Ancestry.com is not the only resource of note. You will examine other essential tools and the Genealogy and Local History librarian will show you how to connect to these online resources from home in three easy steps at the Boardman library on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. Registration for all programs is required. Using the ancestry database

In this program the Genealogy and Local History librarian will demonstrate the power of the ancestry database and show how it can be used effectively for genealogical research at the Boardman library on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. This is perhaps the ultimate genealogy resource, offering access to all available U.S. census images and indexes, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, military records, international records and more. This class is for teens and adults.

‘I Read YA’ book club

This club is for adult fans of Young Adult literature from ages 18-118. Talk about why you like YA. Read and discuss at the Boardman library on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. This month they will be discussing “You in Five Acts” by Una LaMarche. This is for adults.

Pi Day Trail Run to be March 18

The Academy of the Arts students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will host the first PI Day Trail Run Challenge on the school campus on March 18. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the race will kick off at 10 a.m. The cost is $25 if you register before and $30 the day of the race. T-Shirts are guaranteed to all participants pre-registered by March 4 and a free pie will be given to every runner that finishes. Night Owl

An evening story time for children ages 3-5 at the Boardman library on March 21 and 28 at 7 p.m. Each child must be accompanied by an adult in this 30-minute program featuring finger plays, stories and a craft activity.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
