POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

June 13

Identity fraud: A Sampson Drive man learned that his personal information had been used to take out a $5,000 loan, and that he received an $887 past-due notice.

June 14

Arrest: Authorities picked up Nicole Nicholson, 31, of Illinois Avenue, McDonald. She was wanted on a city warrant.

Arrest: Officers received a complaint about an unwanted person at a U.S. Route 422 fast-food restaurant, where they charged Van D. Darling Jr., 49, with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct while intoxicated after an employee reportedly refused to serve Darling because he was in the drive-through on foot. Darling, of East Main Street, Girard, then approached several patrons to demand they buy him a meal, a report showed.

Auto theft: A 2006 Honda Trike was stolen in the 200 block of South Davis Street.

June 15

Theft: A $250 bicycle was stolen in the 30 block of South Randolph Avenue.

June 16

Harassment: An East Kline Street woman reported hearing via a third party that a girl had sent electronic messages to her teenage daughter telling the daughter to kill herself.

Damage: A Patricia Drive man said he saw damage to his Dodge truck’s left rear quarter panel.

Recovered property: Officers retrieved a bicycle that someone had apparently deliberately left on the side of the road in the 300 block of Trumbull Avenue.

June 17

Incident: Police received a complaint that a dog had attacked a mail carrier in the 900 block of Krehl Avenue.

Trespassing: Authorities reported having found someone asleep about 3:30 a.m. near a pavilion in Tod Park before issuing a summons charging Jaclyn R. Dailey, 34, of North Avenue, Girard, with criminal trespassing.

Theft: The owner of a North State Street business reported four 6-volt commercial-truck batteries had been removed.

June 18

Harassment: A Trumbull Avenue man said someone has been harassing him on an online account.

Criminal damaging: A motorist drove on a front lawn and part of an adjacent sidewalk in the 40 block of Smithsonian Street and damaged a 10-foot section of the sidewalk. Damage was estimated at $100.

LIBERTY

June 13

Menacing: A Michigan Drive woman alleged her former boyfriend, of Niles, makes continual unwanted contact with her, including having sent profanity-laced text messages.

June 14

Arrests: After responding to several shoplifters in custody at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police arrested Charnae D. Green, 25, of North Roanoke Avenue, Youngstown, and Michael S. Daniels, 26, of 14th Street, Campbell. Both were wanted on warrants.

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail took custody of Raymond L. Edwards III, 57, of Breaden Street, Youngstown. He was wanted on a larceny charge.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a vehicle in the 3400 block of Belmont Avenue.

June 15

Arrest: Boardman police at the Mahoning County jail transferred custody of Katara S. Joe, 29, to township authorities. Joe, of West Dennick Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a Liberty warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Scam: A Gypsy Lane woman told authorities a caller claimed she had $9,000 in grant money available to her and provided her with instructions to first buy $200 worth of gift cards from Walmart before she was tricked into giving her bank-account number and address. A short time later, another person came on the line and told the accuser to buy $600 in gift cards from Walgreens to get the supposed $9,000 before she realized it was a scam. Police advised the victim to cancel the account.

Drugs: After pulling him over on Motor Inn Drive, officers charged David R. Hunkus of Greenbrier Drive, Girard, with possession of drug paraphernalia and handed him a minor-misdemeanor citation charging marijuana possession. Hunkus, 24, had a small bag of suspected marijuana, a device used to grind marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe, a report said.

Threats: A Roosevelt Drive woman alleged a man had threatened to shoot her and someone else unless she pays him $800 the man claims she owes him.

Theft: A Masury woman reported her purse that contained $3,000 was stolen at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Arrest: Damari Rodriguez, 29, of Arch Street, Youngstown, was taken into custody during a traffic stop on state Route 193, on a federal warrant related to bank fraud. Rodriguez also was wanted on warrants from Youngstown and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

June 16

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed eggs and struck a residence in the 4700 block of East Drive, damaging part of its siding, roof and a door.

Arrest: After answering a call about a car in a grassy area in the 1600 block of Trumbull Avenue, officers took Rashida A. Benning into custody. Benning, of Harbor Street, New Castle, Pa., was wanted on Newton Falls warrant charging failure to appear in court.

June 17

Assault: A Trumbull Court woman alleged a neighbor punched her face during an argument about a website the accuser had visited.

Weapon/drugs: Authorities responded to possible gunfire in the 5000 block of West Liberty Street, then arrested Brandon O. Grove, 21, of Carter Circle, Boardman, on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, being a convicted felon with a firearm, heroin possession and obstructing official business after Grove reportedly admitted having a loaded .22-caliber handgun with no concealed-carry permit. He also had a bag containing 31 rounds of ammunition, as well as a suspected crack-cocaine pipe; in addition, Grove admitted he had suspected heroin in his wallet before he was booked into the Trumbull County jail, police alleged.

June 18

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicle in a culvert in the 1700 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road, where they charged Adam R. Grdinich, 32, of Joan Avenue, Girard, with operating a vehicle impaired. Grdinich had a 0.227 blood-alcohol content, which is nearly three times Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.

Felonious assault: Authorities were dispatched to Mansell Drive, where they reported having found a man who was bleeding from a head wound before he alleged that during an argument, his brother had knocked him unconscious, then returned to strike the accuser in the head with a large garbage can, again knocking him unconscious. Charges against the brother were pending.

Domestic violence: Dallas L. Humphrey Jr., 38, of Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged Humphrey had forcibly removed her from a vehicle, then punched her head and face.

Arrest: A vehicle check near Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of Jimmy Moore Jr., 33, of Trumbull Court, Liberty, who was wanted on a Youngstown warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court.

HUBBARD

June 14

Harassment: A Hubbard male reported two people, one each on a motorcycle and an all-terrain vehicle, pulled up and yelled derogatory names at him near Jones and Moore streets.

June 16

Criminal damaging: A man said a 15-year-old girl had smashed a teenage boy’s $600 iPhone at the man’s Creed Avenue home.

June 17

Trespassing: A man told officers another man was on a piece of property the accuser owns in the 500 block of East Liberty Street that had been cordoned off because an apartment is to undergo lead removal. No charges were filed, however.

June 18

Theft: A Hubbard man discovered his $500 wristwatch missing near a basketball court in a park off Jones Street.
