Cars line up every Tuesday during May 9 through Sept. 13 at the Austintown Senior Center for an annual car cruise.
The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club has hosted cruise nights for about 20 years and the Tuesday Cruise Nites bring in about 70 cars every Tuesday. Several people come to look at all of the different types of cars.
“It’s amazing the people you get to meet,” said Rich Posivak, member of the MVOCC. “We get a good turn out here.”
On every Tuesday, door prizes are given away and a 50/50 raffle takes place. Members bring in items for the raffles and the door prizes. This summer the MVOCC is raffling off a television that Greenwood Chevrolet donated to them. Tickets can be purchased every Tuesday and the winner will be announced at the end of the summer.
“Where we really got to talking about it is out at Idora Park, we had a show out there. That’s where it really started at,” said Elmer Lydic, president of the MVOCC.
The MCOCC is grateful for their members and the supporters in the community because without them, there would be no club. The club started at Southern Park Mall in 1978.
Bud Gane, founding member, reserved a room at the Southern Park Mall and hosted a meeting for those who would be interested in joining the MVOCC. At first the room was empty, but right as time was winding down dozens of people came in to show their interest in joining.
“The room was packed, right around the 100 mark,” said Gane.
The cost for those who wish to register their car in the car cruise is $3 and that fee benefits the Hospice of the Valley and area children’s charities. The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club currently helps out three children a year and is hoping after this year they can sponsor one more child.
The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club is looking to complete their $50,000 donation the Hospice of the Valley this year. Once they reach their goal, they will receive a plaque for their accomplishment.
The annual “Car in Park” event will be hosted at Boardman Park on Aug. 6. This year they are having a Kids Korner area which they hope will help children get involved in the antique car hobby.
