Nielsen to count Hulu, YouTube

NEW YORK

Nielsen will begin to tabulate how many people get their live TV from Hulu and YouTube, giving media companies and advertisers a better idea of how many people now stream broadcast networks rather than watch them on traditional TV.

Hulu and YouTube have not revealed how many people subscribe to the live TV services that they launched in the spring as a counter to cable TV.

Subscribers can stream channels live on laptops, smartphones and elsewhere. They can also record shows digitally or watch them on demand. Both services cost nearly $40 a month.

Media companies base the amount they charge advertisers on the number of people who are watching at a particular time. There has been a tremendous surge in the number of people who use streaming services.

Butter sculpture gets color tint

COLUMBUS

This year’s butter display at the Ohio State Fair is a salute to chocolate milk, the official beverage of Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Inside the dairy cooler, the traditional butter cow and calf are joined by a larger-than-life bottle of chocolate milk, along with four high school athletes.

The six-foot bottle of chocolate milk featured in the butter display gets its creamy, chocolatey color from cocoa powder that’s mixed with the butter. It’s the first time the sculptors have ever added color to their work.

The butter sculptures are on display today to Aug. 6 in the Dairy Products Building at the Ohio State Fair from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. each day.

Backstreet, FGL on ‘Crossroads’

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Backstreet Boys got their first hit country song this year on a collaboration with country duo Florida Georgia Line and now the two powerhouse acts are teaming up for a “CMT Crossroads” episode airing Aug. 30 at 10 p.m.

The cross-genre television show will feature all-star group performances of each other’s biggest singles, including “I Want It That Way,” “As Long As You Love Me,” “Cruise” and “H.O.L.Y.” as well as their partnership on the platinum hit “God, Your Momma, and Me.”

The two groups are popping up together a lot this year. They performed together on the Academy of Country Music Awards this year and are playing a series of baseball stadium tour dates this summer.
