Bond is set at $50,000 for a man accused of stabbing his wife early Friday at a bar in the 3000 block of Southern Boulevard.
Derrick Boone, 50, was arraigned in municipal court before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a charge of felonious assault.
Assistant City Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno said Boone has a long record of violence, including past convictions for felonious assault and domestic violence.
Police were called to the bar just after 1:30 a.m. for a report of a fight between a man and a woman. When police arrived, they saw bar patrons carrying the victim out of the bar with stab wounds to her cheek and bicep and her chest was covered in blood.
Reports said witnesses told police Boone had stabbed his wife.
A report said he was found in the parking lot urinating on his car and he appeared to be very drunk.
Witnesses told police Boone and his wife were on a patio talking, then began arguing then Boone picked up a knife and stabbed her.
When other people tried to stop him, he threatened to stab them too before throwing the knife into some bushes.
Officers found the knife with cooperation from witnesses, reports said.
Records from Mahoning County Common Pleas Court show that Boone was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2015 on charges of felonious assault and domestic violence. He is now on probation in that case.
Boone also has a 2012 domestic-violence case in municipal court and Moliterno said he has charges and convictions for cruelty to children and assault with intent to kill in Georgia and Michigan, respectively.
Boone is in the Mahoning County jail.
