Youngstown SMARTS to receive 2017 Governor’s Awards for the Arts

COLUMBUS — SMARTS of Youngstown is among nine people or groups set to receive awards at the 2017 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio.

SMARTS is a community-based art school in Youngstown that focuses on providing arts education to underserved populations. Becky Keck is executive director of Students Motivated by the Arts, which is set to open new classroom space in early spring at Ohio One building.

SMARTS was recognized for contributions to arts education.

The award ceremony will take place in Columbus on May 17 at the Columbus Athenaeum.
