New development leader for Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown

Laura Weymer takes over as the director of development at the Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown, 2105 Oak Hill Ave.

Her hiring is one of several operational changes to start the new year at the 47-year-old facility on the city’s South Side, according to a club news release.

Weymer, of Bellefontaine, comes over from the United Way of Youngstown & the Mahoning Valley. She previously worked for Youngstown State University and the YMCA of Youngstown.

She has degrees from Miami University of Ohio and Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Weymer will be responsible for fundraising and community/corporate partnerships.

The club serves more than 700 members per year with more than 100 using the facility each day.

“Laura is an asset added to our organization,” said Germaine McAlpine, executive director. “We are glad to have her join our administration team in 2017. She will play an essential role in spearheading development efforts, in our organizational vision to grow our mission of impacting the lives of our youth in the Mahoning Valley.”

Also, eight people started new terms on the board of directors. They are Brian Marrow, Mary Louk, Harry Wollet, Mike Gibson, Tom Hetrick, Patrick Burgan, Megan Zidian and Jack Daugherty.

Bill Russell, a 35-year board member, retired from the group having served five of those years as president.
