Lit Youngstown classes for writers

YOUNGSTOWN

Lit Youngstown, a local group for writers and readers, is offering four weekly classes that will be taught by experienced writers. For information, or to register, go to LitYoungstown.org. Registration is mandatory; walk-ins will not be permitted.

The classes are:

“Writing Poetry,” taught by Karen Schubert ($25), March 8-April 19, at El Tapatios, 3632 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Registration closes Sunday.

“The Road Less Traveled: The Journey Narrative,” taught by Mari Alschuler ($25), for older teens, March 14-May 2, at Mocha House, 7141 Tiffany Blvd., Boardman. Registration closes Sunday.

“Sharing Your Family Story,” taught by Liz Hill ($15), March 26 and April 9, at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., Youngstown. Registration closes March 12.

“Editing 101: Red Ink is Your Friend,” taught by Stacey Schneider and Lori Bodkin ($15), May 6, at Cultivate Co-op Cafe, 901 Elm St., Youngstown. Registration closes April 22.

Miller Sisters at St. Patrick’s

YOUNGSTOWN

The Miller Sisters band will play a mix of traditional Celtic, American folk and modern selections during a one-hour concert Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, 1410 Oak Hill Ave. The group members play harps, fiddle and Irish whistles. The sisters, Allison, Sairey, Laura, Micah and Maggie, began playing and studying music at young ages.

The performance is free, but offerings will be accepted. It is part of the Sauce and Song series, which includes a spaghetti dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under).

Dana concert

YOUNGSTOWN

The two winners of the Dana Young Artists Concerto Competition will perform solos with the Dana Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stephen L. Gage, when it performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

Michael Nichols, piano, and Francesca Molinaro, soprano, will perform in the concert, dubbed “From the New World,” along with the Windy Five woodwind quintet, coached by Kathryn Umble.

Tickets are $6 ($5 for students and senior citizens) and are available by phone at 330-259-0555, at stambaughauditorium.com and at the door.
