MEN

No. 3 Kansas 84, No. 9 West Virginia 80, OT

LAWRENCE, KAN.

Frank Mason III had 24 points, including two free throws to cap a frantic comeback from 14 down in the final three minutes of regulation, and No. 3 Kansas stunned No. 9 West Virginia in overtime to assume control of the Big 12 race. Devonte Graham added 18 points, hitting two of his five 3-pointers in the extra period, and Josh Jackson added 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Jayhawks (23-3, 11-2) avenged a loss in Morgantown while extending their lead over fourth-ranked Baylor to two games in the league standings. Esa Ahmad scored 20 points and Tarik Phillip had 18 for the Mountaineers (20-6, 8-5).

No. 2 Villanova 75, DePaul 62

ROSEMONT, ILL.

Jalen Brunson scored 18 points, Josh Hart had 16 and Villanova beat lowly DePaul. Brunson, a former Illinois, went 4 for 8 from the field and 8 for 9 at the free throw line in the Wildcats’ sixth straight victory. Mikal Bridges added 15 points, and Kris Jenkins finished with 13. Villanova (25-2, 12-2 Big East) played without Darryl Reynolds for the second straight game due to a rib injury, but the defending national champions still had more than enough to put away last-place DePaul (8-18, 1-12). The Blue Demons shot 38 percent (22 for 58) from the field in their ninth straight loss. They also committed 14 turnovers, leading to 16 points for the opportunistic Wildcats.

Texas Tech 84, Baylor 78

LUBBOCK, TEXAS

Keenan Evans scored 23 points, Niem Stevenson had 21 and Texas Tech toppled fourth-ranked Baylor. The Red Raiders rallied in the second half after blowing an early 12-point lead. Texas Tech opened the game with an 11-0 run and used an identical spurt late in the game to go ahead to stay. Devon Thomas converted a tying three-point play with 7:09 left, his only points of the game coming after he was originally whistled for charging while making a layup. Officials reviewed the play and the call was overturned after it was determined Jake Lindsey was in the restricted area when he drew contact, and he instead was given the foul. Aaron Ross then hit a 3-pointer, and his layup with five minutes left put Texas Tech (17-9, 5-8 Big 12) up 69-61. Justin Gray added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Raiders, who were coming off consecutive one-point losses.

No. 8 Lousville 76, Syracuse 72, OT

SYRACUSE, N.Y.

Louisville scored 10 consecutive points in overtime, including five straight by Anas Mahmoud, to outlast Syracuse. John Gillon sent the game to overtime for Syracuse by hitting a 3-pointer with 40 seconds to go in regulation that tied the score at 58. The Orange took a 63-61 lead on two free throws by Andrew White, but Louisville scored the next 10 points to take control and hold on. Donovan Mitchell scored 16 points, including 13 in the second half, and Quentin Snider added 14 to lead Louisville (21-5, 9-4 Atlantic Coast Conference). Mahmoud had 12.

WOMEN

No. 1 UConn 66, No. 6 South Carolina 55

STORRS, CONN.

Gabby Williams scored a career-high 26 points and Napheesa Collier added 18 to help top-ranked UConn to its 100th consecutive victory. Coach Geno Auriemma never thought his team would come close to reaching the century mark, let alone break the previous NCAA record set by the Huskies from 2008-10. The Hall of Fame coach set up the most difficult non-conference schedule in the country, playing five of the top eight teams in the AP women’s basketball poll before Monday. They came away victorious in each one. The Huskies (25-0) last lost on Nov. 17, 2014, at Stanford. Trailing 29-28 late in the first half, the Huskies scored seven straight to take a six-point halftime lead. South Carolina (21-3) cut its deficit to 40-37 midway through the third quarter, but Williams had consecutive layups to start an 11-2 run to close the period.

No. 8 Texas 92, No. 4 Florida State 88, 2 OT

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.

Brooke McCarty scored a career-high 29 points as No. 8 Texas won its 19th straight. The junior guard, who shot 11 for 16 from the field and 5 for 8 on 3-pointers, scored three points in the second extra period. Ariel Atkins added 21 points as the Longhorns (21-4) got their second road win against a top-five team in eight days. They won at then-No. 2 Baylor on Feb. 6. Shakayla Thomas scored 23 points, and Brittany Brown and Ama Degbeon added 13 apiece for Florida State (23-3), which snapped a 10-game winning streak. The Seminoles missed their last six shots and were held without a field goal over the final 3:39, finishing 29 for 86 from the field.
