WARREN

A not-guilty plea was entered Friday for Steven A. Allen, 18, of Jefferson Street Southwest to felonious assault.

He’s accused of hitting his girlfriend in the head with a skillet and cutting her neck with a broken plate.

Allen remained in jail Friday in lieu of $3,500 bond after a hearing in Warren Municipal Court. If convicted, he could get eight years in prison.

His 23-year-old girlfriend reported Wednesday she and Allen argued in the morning because he would not let her ride to work with a male friend. The distance to her job was about 4 miles from the apartment on Lancer Court Northwest to Elm Road. The temperature plunged to the single digits.

She said Allen assaulted her for an hour, choked her, punched her in the face, hit her in the back of the head with a cast-iron skillet and cut her throat with a piece of a broken plate. Finally, he blocked the front door with a table and choked her until she passed out, she said. Allen called for someone to pick her up.

Police said the woman’s face was badly bruised and swollen, and she had scratches on her throat, plus bruises on her arms and stomach. She was treated at Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

The woman said Allen also beat her a month ago, but she didn’t report it.

Police arrested Allen on Thursday afternoon at a house on Front Street.
