YOUNGSTOWN

The courts finally caught up with a Youngstown man who pleaded guilty to a felony in 2013 but never showed up for sentencing.

At the time, prosecutors were recommending probation. Today, Jarell Huffman, 29, of Rush Boulevard received 18 months in prison.

Huffman pleaded guilty to illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility in 2013 but missed his sentencing hearing in 2014.

Officers in Detroit arrested Huffman on a bench warrant, and he was extradited to Mahoning County, prosecutors said.

Judge Anthony M. D’Apolito said the initial offense would not have required prison, but he felt compelled to impose the sentence to protect the integrity of the court system.
