Girl Scouts to begin 2018 cookie season

Girls Scouts of North East Ohio will begin their second century of selling Girl Scout cookies Jan. 3, 2018, the largest girl-led business in the world. Time and technology have changed from orders taken door-to-door and delivered eight weeks later to selling online and in person today through the Digital Cookie platform. Girl Scouts send their cookie customers an email with a link to their personalized site, where they can order cookies to be delivered, shipped or donated to the military. Scouts who use the platform and the traditional sales methods reach their goals faster.

Five skills the girls learn are goal-setting, decision-making, money-management, business-ethics and people skills. Girls earn funds for their chosen activities that will help them in business and life, and they learn to handle money and make decisions about how to use it, which includes learning about spending, saving and giving to those in need.

All the net revenue remains in the local area and gives Scouts the opportunity to become a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) by helping build courage, confidence and character.

Cookies for sale this year include Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-si-dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils and Savannah Smiles for $4 per box and the $5 gluten-free Toffee Tastic and S’mores cookies. Last year, S’mores became the most popular flavor to launch in 100 years of selling cookies.
