YOUNGSTOWN

The first of two swearing-in ceremonies for Youngstown Mayor-elect Jamael Tito Brown took place Saturday at Union Baptist Church for immediate family and close friends.

The second will take place 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at the same church. Magistrate Carla J. Baldwin will administer the oath.

Brown said two ceremonies were needed to accommodate scheduling conflicts with family and friends and holiday schedules, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Democrat Brown won the mayor’s office by a very thin margin over Independent Sean McKinney. In the 2013 Democratic primary, the former city council president and 3rd Ward councilman lost by 142 votes to John A. McNally, who went on to win the mayor seat. In a rematch with McNally this year, Brown won the May primary by 461 votes.

After this year’s general election Brown said: “I have to find those who didn’t vote for me and earn their respect and earn their accountability. I’ll be the mayor for everyone, not just those who voted for me.”
