ASSOCIATIONS

Youngstown Model Railroad Association members will host a model and toy train exhibit and workshop at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Carriage House, behind the Arms Museum, 648 Wick Ave. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (60 years and older) and $5 for children age 3 to 18. CLUBS

First Friday Club Speaker’s Luncheon Series will host a student panel from area Catholic schools from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 4 at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave., Boardman. Sister Regina Rogers, OSU, pastoral minister at St. Edward Parish and teacher at Ursuline High School, will lead a discussion, “Catholic Education: Past, Present and Future.” Cost is $16. Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will meet at noon Monday at Johnny’s Restaurant, 7807 Market St., Boardman. Hostesses are Bonnie Lambert and Alice Marchione. Trumbull County Republican Party will celebrate Christmas with a full brunch at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at DiLucia’s Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road, Warren. Guest speaker will be Chris DePizzo, candidate for U.S. Representative in the 13th District.

St. Rose Quilting Group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the parish house.

SINGLES

D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. The group has scheduled the following activities: Saturday, bowling at Boardman Lanes at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, play pool at Wedgewood Lanes from 7 to 9 p.m.; Thursday, $10 gift exchange at the church; Dec. 22, card night at Denny’s on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown from 6 to 10 p.m.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s education staff will host an ornament-making workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Carriage House, behind the Arms Museum, 648 Wick Ave. Supplies will be included with regular museum admission. Poland Historical Society will meet for a Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Little Red Schoolhouse, 4515 Center Road. Entree, dessert and beverages will be provided by the society. Members are asked to take a side dish, casserole or salad to share. The society is selling Poland T-shirts this year. Cost is $12 for sizes small through extra-large.

William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz’s Deli meeting room, 3135 Belmont Ave., for Memories of a Lifetime with Sean Posey, local historian and author. Admission is $5 and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and a 50-50 raffle will take place to benefit the society’s education mission. Reservations are suggested. Walk-ins admitted based on seating availability.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Center, 721 Boardman Poland Road, Boardman; and 7 p.m. Tuesday at Girard Free Library, 105 E. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and Austintown Family Support Group, 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. NAMI Connection, a support group for people with a mental health diagnosis meets at the following locations: 1:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown; 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays at Alta Care in Austintown; and NAMI Connection for the dual diagnosed at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Survivors of Suicide Mahoning County will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Disciples Christian Church, located at 565 Boardman Canfield Road, Boardman. Survivors of Suicide in Columbiana County will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Dec. 28 at Columbiana County Counseling Center, 40722 state Route 154, Lisbon. TOPS 327 is seeking new members who want to Take Off Pounds Sensibly. Meeting will take place Monday at Christ Church Presbyterian, 1933 Canfield Road, Boardman. Mahoning Valley Korean War Veterans Association meets at 9 a.m. every Friday at Denny’s Restaurant in Austintown. New members are welcome.

VFW Post 93, 2912 South Ave., Youngstown, will meet for its annual Christmas party from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Santa arrives at 2 p.m. and gifts will be distributed to area children. Members and guests are welcome.
