House bills pass, create memorial highways

YOUNGSTOWN

State Reps. John Boccieri of Poland, D-59th and Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown, D-58th, announced that a trio of their sponsored bills unanimously passed the Ohio House of Representatives, and will create memorial highways in honor of Sen. Harry Meshel and Frank Watson, as well as a memorial bridge for female veterans.

House Bill 376 creates a memorial highway for Sen. Harry Meshel along U.S. Route 422, and House Bill 375 designates part of Interstate 680 outside Youngstown State University as “Frank Watson Memorial Highway.” House Bill 387 renames the Austintown bridge on Mahoning Avenue and state Route 11 to “Woman Veterans Bridge.”

Hosting holiday dinner

YNDC to clean Playhouse

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation will be cleaning the exterior of Youngstown Playhouse on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those wishing to participate should meet with YNDC at 820 Canfield Road before the event.

2 semis collide near I-80

HUBBARD

U.. Route 62 northbound was closed for a lengthy period Wednesday morning after two tractor-trailer rigs collided near Interstate 80.

Route 62 was closed while sand was brought in to soak up diesel fuel that leaked onto the highway, said 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner. It was not immediately known if there were any injuries.

Bombs found at home

HUBBARD

The Youngstown Bomb Squad was called to the Hubbard Police Station on Tuesday night after a search conducted by Hubbard police at a Hillview Drive earlier in the day produced eight homemade bombs.

The explosive devices were turned over to the bomb squad for safe handling and disposal, officials said.
