Sharon teen shot, dies

SHARON, PA.

A 15-year-old shot Tuesday evening in the 700 block of Meek Street died shortly after the shooting. Sharon Police Chief Gerald Smith said the victim is Anthony Capal, and the suspect in custody is Christopher Dickson Jr., who will be charged as an adult with homicide.

A member of the victim’s family said he heard that the shooting was over a sandwich and that the victim was accidently shot in the chest.

Smith said police were still interviewing witnesses and others in connection with the death and collecting evidence at 11:30 p.m. An autopsy is expected to be done today by the Erie Coroner’s Office, he said.

Streets are reopened

YOUNGSTOWN

Sections of two of downtown’s busiest streets closed to vehicular traffic for resurfacing work have reopened. The streets, closed since Aug. 7, are Federal Street from Phelps to Walnut streets, and Market Street from Front to Commerce streets.

Peace Chair exhibit

YOUNGSTOWN

The Peace Chair exhibit will begin its second year from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St., downtown.

Fifty-nine chairs have been submitted to the project, nearly doubling the number of entries from the previous year’s exhibit. The chairs are painted or otherwise decorated to reflect the exhibit’s theme, “Sit in Peace.”

A selection of the chairs will go on display at the Butler Museum of American Art on Wick Avenue after the Soap Gallery show. All the chairs will later be auctioned off by COMPASS Family and Community Services, with all proceeds going to benefit the Sojourner House Domestic Violence shelter.

YSU students receive recognition

YOUNGSTOWN

Eight business students from Youngstown State University were honored at a special ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus for their participation in the 2017 Ohio Export Internship Program.

The students were: Adam Aras of Boardman; Mariah Carna of New Bedford, Pa.; Ellen Chittester of Youngstown; Allison Conroy of Canfield; Emily Lampe of Diamond, Ohio; Evan Landgraff of Washington, Pa.; Joseph Scott of Cortland; and Julian Testa of Canfield.

The Ohio Export Internship Program provides an opportunity for businesses interested in exporting.

Road closing for work

GREENE

Trumbull County Engineer’s Office announced York Road, at Townline Road/North Park Avenue and Chaffee Dodgeville Road, will be closed effective Sept. 11 through Sept. 29 for a culvert replacement.
