Library offers fun yoga class Sept. 5

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a fun-filled yoga class from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5 with Teresa Lisum, certified yoga leader. Relax, laugh and learn techniques that will improve stress management, breathing and lighten spirits.
The class is free, but registration is required. Register online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or call the library at 330-332-0042. Wear loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes. Floor yoga is not included in this class.
Historical society celebrates 142 years

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will celebrate its 142nd birthday with a free open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal Street downtown. The Young Leaders Advisory Board will conduct walking tours of the downtown Youngstown area beginning at 12:30 until 2 p.m.
Featured, will be displays from the McKinley Memorial Library, Niles Historical Society, Melnick Museum, the Youngstown State University Archives, and the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. There will be games and crafts available, including ice cream making and visitors will be able to put themselves in historic images at a “get in the picture” station. Green Cathedral race set to run Sept. 10

Mill Creek MetroParks will host the fifth annual Green Cathedral race Sept. 10. The race will begin and end in the Wick recreation area located at 1861 McCollum Road.
The Kids Fun Run begins at 8 a.m.; the half-marathon begins at 8:30 a.m.; and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:45 a.m.
This event is open to all ages and abilities, and awards will be given according to age groups. The Kids Fun Run is free, and children will receive a participation award.
Early-bird registration deadline was Aug. 27. The Half Marathon is now $40. The 5K Run/Walk is $30.
The Green Cathedral Race is sponsored by 21 WFMJ/WBCB, and all proceeds will benefit the Juliana Kurinka children’s play area at the Wick recreational area. For information and to register, visit www.millcreekmetroparks.org or runsignup.com.
Polka Dot Powerhouse to meet Sept. 5

The Mahoning Valley Chapter of Polka Dot Powerhouse will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Blue Wolf Tavern, 1295 Boardman-Canfield Road. The Polka Dot Sisterhood brings together women from all ages, races, background, locations and industries. Stephanie Gilchrist, executive director of Inspiring Minds Youngstown will be the speaker. She was recently the director of Women in Entrepreneurship at the Youngstown Business Incubator. Attendees are encouraged to come 15 minutes early to connect with each other before the meeting starts. Lunch will be ordered from the menu. Thiel College appoints new coordinator
GREENVILLE, PA.
Clarissa Arbuckle has been appointed the coordinator of the Disability Resource Center at Thiel College. Arbuckle graduated from Thiel in 2011, attended Yale Divinity School and completed her master’s degree in college counseling at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania in May. She also serves as the assistant director of the Thiel College Career Development Center.
The Disability Resource Center office works with students with physical, psychological and medical disabilities. Arbuckle makes sure they all have equal access to the college’s educational, social and cultural opportunities.
AAUW will host craft and vendor fair

The Trumbull branch of the American Association of University Women will host a craft and vendor fair Oct. 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church on East Market Street.
Crafters and vendors need to be at the church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. An eight-foot table and two chairs can be reserved for $25. There will be free admission and the fair will include lunch and a bake sale. Contact Diana Bauman at 330-856-6034.
MVCAP hosts progressive dinner

Mahoning Valley College Access Program will host its first progressive dinner fundraiser Oct. 7. Start times vary from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., depending on the dinner option.
Attendees will visit several downtown Warren venues in the heart of historic Courthouse Square. There will be cocktail hour and an auction at the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center, appetizers at the Trumbull Art Gallery, a dinner option at either the Speakeasy Lounge or the Saratoga, and designer dessert doughnuts and specialty coffees at the new Nova Coffee Co.
