Springfield 12, Valley Christian 3

AUSTINTOWN

Cierra Latronica made four goals, Kylee Kosek made three, Anna Ohlin made two and the Tigers (1-0) had three more from Jenna Hatton, Haley LaMorticella and Courtney Hughes. Ohlin and Jenna Hatton had two assists and LaMorticella, Hughes, Latronica, Anna Rothwell and Gianna Latronica had one. The Eagles had two goals from Logan Schnabl and one from Aaliyah Williams. Chaise Vogt had two assists. Lex Slike had six saves for the Tigers and Natalie Rodgers had seven for the Eagles (0-1).

Grand Valley 7, Badger 3

KINSMAN

Alyssa Clason scored four goals for Grand Valley and Katrina Kingdom, Ella Crum and Rachael Taylor each added one more. Clason and Crum has two assists and Kingdom, Emily D’Amico and Caitlyn Stafford all added one for the Mustangs. Izza Scarberry made six saves for Grand Valley (1-0) and Meghan Pearce had 12 saves for Badger (0-1). Chloe Flowers made two goals for Badger and Eve Flowers had one. Megan Miller had one assist.

BOYS SOCCER

Ursuline 7, St. Thomas Aquinas 0

YOUNGSTOWN

Jacob Coman had a hat trick for Ursuline. He had assists from Mario Ruano, Guy Kaho and Leo Puhalla. Brandon Freer had a goal and assist by Emmanuel Kerpelis. Colin Faloon’s goal was assisted by Freer. Ruano and Kaho also scored goals, Bo Gray had three saves and Kerpelis had five for the Fighting Irish. St. Thomas’s Sam Michailides had four saves and John Peterson had seven.

Poland 3, Champion 0

CHAMPION

Poland blanked Champion, as three different players scored for the Bulldogs. Reed McCreery, Bailey Swogger, and Noah Cartwright all found the net for Poland.

Mineral Ridge 8, Columbiana 2

MINERAL RIDGE

J.T. Gaydosh had the first goal for the Rams (1-0) with an assist from Braedynn Porter. Gaydosh later scored two more and Gonzalo Ames scored three. The seventh and eighth goals were scored by Anthony Testa and Porter.

Badger 5, Grand Valley 2

KINSMAN

Badger’s Damon Luchette scored four goals and Travis Webber made it five. Dylan Landis, Damon Luoma and Luke Springer had the assists. Grand Valley had goals by Maysn Anderson and Justin Benson. Dylan Miller made seven saves for Badger and Justin Shahan made 10 for Grand Valley.

VOLLEYBALL

Canfield 25-17-25-25, Hathaway Brown 16-25-18-20

CANFIELD

Grace Mangapora led Canfield with 12 kills. Alyssa Householder added 24 assists and Frankie Carney had 14 digs as the Cardinals beat a perennial state power to open the season.

Struthers 25-25-25, Campbell 23-19-11

STRUTHERS

Michelle Buser had eight kills, five digs and one block, Amanda Zupko had six kills, two aces and four blocks and Sophia Jackson had 20 assists for Struthers. For Campell, Julie Montanez had nine kills, Dom Swiney-Gray had 20 digs and Amalisa Echaverria had four aces.

Chippewa 25-22-25, West Branch 21-25-18

BELOIT

For West Branch, Elise Wallace had 13 points, five aces and 14 assists, Jenna Rockwell had five points and Delaney Rito had 10 kills (0-1).

West Branch 25-25, Southeast 21-23

BELOIT

Delaney Rito had 11 points and five kills, Elise Wallace had nine assists and nine kills and Claire Smith had five assists for West Branch (1-1).

South Range 25-25, Heartland Christian 16-14

BEAVER TOWNSHIP

Drew Feren had nine assists, three aces and four digs to lead South Range (1-0) over Heartland Christrian (0-1). Danielle Vuletich added five kills and four blocks for the Raiders.

South Range 25-25, Maplewood 21-23

BEAVER TOWNSHIP

Ashley McKeel led the Raiders (2-0) over Maplewood (0-1) in game two with two kills, 10 assists, one ace, one block and two digs. Mary Kuhns added three aces and nine digs.

CROSS COUNTRY

Poland girls finish 1-2

HEBRON

Poland runners Gianna Stanich (19:57.0) and Maggie Sebest (19:57.4) finished first and second respectively at the OHSAA Preseason Invitational at National Trail Raceway. As a team Poland took second place. Other scorers for Poland’s girls were Halle Sebest, Hailey Trolio, and Josie Mayle. The Poland boys team came up with a sixth place finish, while the Howland boys came in 10th place. Scoring for the Poland boys were Sam Dwyer, Geno Gallo, Mason Matiste, Jet Bailey and Tony Gallo.
