Birding the Sanctuary

When: Saturday, 8-9:30 a.m.

What: Enjoy an early- morning bird walk at Mill Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, led by Jeff Harvey of Wild Birds Unlimited.

Where: Mill Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, 2650 West Calla Road, Beaver Township.

Details: Boots required. Moderate difficulty, 1.25 miles. Register at Ford Nature Center by today.

Family Fun Fridays

When: Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

What: Take part in fun drop-in activities in the Family Garden, where families can learn and explore together. Special guests visit each week with activities such as yoga, a pop-up library, crafts, storytelling and more.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Hike with a Naturalist

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Escape the heat with a cool hike down the gorge trail with naturalist Arika Preas, and end with a refreshing splash at the Scholl spray pool.

Where: Scholl Recreation Area, 2665 Bears Den Road, Youngstown.

Cost: Free

Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing

When: Monday, 1-4 p.m.

What: We’re not on the path of the full eclipse, but our friends from YSU’s Ward Beecher Planetarium will provide safe partial eclipse viewing.

Where: MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield.

Sprout Club

When: Next Thursday, 1-2 p.m.

What: Join the Sprout Club this summer to learn about the amazing world of plants. Topics include: symbols of Ohio, wheat and The Little Red Hen, pasta.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Cost: $15/series; $7/class

Details: For ages 3-5, plus adult. Each class includes an activity and snack.

Parkitecture Trolley

When: Tuesday, 1-3 p.m.

What: MetroParks landscape architect Justin Rogers will guide this special trolley trip and help us appreciate the beautiful, historic landscape features and building architecture in Mill Creek MetroParks.

Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.

Cost: $7, Mahoning County residents, $10 NR; $5, residents 12 and younger or 60 and older, $8 NR.
