The Trumbull County commissioners are expected to approve an enterprise agreement with Ohio Star Forge, which makes auto parts, for a 60-percent tax abatement for 10 years on a 15,000-square-foot expansion.
Ohio Star Forge has continuously operated its plant on Mahoning Avenue in Champion in former Copperweld Steel facilities since 1988.
It also has met and exceeded all of the terms of its two previous enterprise agreements dating back to 2002, said Nick Coggins, economic-development coordinator for the Trumbull County Planning Commission.
The agreement, which Champion Township trustees approved Monday, involves an investment of $4.2 million to $4.6 million and the hiring of seven additional full-time workers over the next three years.
The company, which has 119 employees, will be building a machine in the new building, Coggins said. The company also donated machining equipment to the Trumbull Career and Technical Center earlier this year to help with the machining program.
The company hopes to hire trainees from the program to work in the machine shop, Coggins said.
A public hearing on the enterprise agreement is scheduled for 10 a.m. today in the commissioners hearing room before the commissioners’ regular meeting.
