Boardman trustees swear in new police officer

BOARDMAN

Trustees swore in the township’s latest police officer, Shannon Chaffee, Wednesday evening.

In just a few weeks, Chaffee will graduate from Youngstown State University. She also attended the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy.

Police Chief Jack Nichols said this is one of the greatest pleasures of police work, when so much is focused on complaints and criminals.

“When we get to do something uplifting like this,” he said. “Swearing in a young person as a new member of the department is a pleasure and something we look forward to,” he said.

Under the terms of the township’s contract with the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, Chaffee will start with an annual salary of $35,925.

In other business, trustees purchased nine automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, from Physio Control, to replace the fire department’s outdated AEDs at a total cost of $20,736.

The trustees also purchased a special antenna to connect with a radio tower and the labor to install it from Staley Communication for a total cost of $19,727 through the law-enforcement trust fund.
