Lifeguards sought for North Side Pool

The city’s park and recreation department is looking for lifeguards for the swim season at North Side Pool. The tentative dates of operation are June 12 to Aug. 4 with the pool closed on Sundays.

All certified lifeguards are paid $10 an hour. To apply, contact Tiffany in the park office at 330-742-8711 before May 1.

Positive Parenting seeking participants for free seminar

As part of the Positive Parenting Program, Alta Behavioral Healthcare will present a free seminar on Raising Resilient Children for parents of kids from birth to 12 years old.

The free event is set for 7 to 9 p.m. May 3 at Kids Town, 55 Stadium Drive. Presenting the seminar will be Marci Masters, a master trainer and early-childhood mental-health consultant for Alta Behavioral Healthcare.

At this seminar, parents can learn how to encourage positive behavior in children while dealing with problem behavior and how to become confident as parents.

Participants will be limited to 15 parents. Reservations can be made at 330-793-2487, ext. 244.

Registration for kindergarten starts

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Springfield Local Elementary School is registering students who will be entering kindergarten this fall.

Call 330-542-3722 by May 8 to make an appointment for kindergarten screening.

A child entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30.

Screening will take place May 9 and 10 at the elementary building, 11419 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road. Appointments will be scheduled when parents call to register.

Parents are asked to bring their child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, two proofs of residency and custody papers, if applicable.

Walk to memorialize suicide victims set for May 6 in Warren

The 10th annual Survivors of Suicide Awareness Walk will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. May 6 at the gazebo in Trumbull County Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

The walk is in memory of loved ones who died by suicide.

Family members, friends and the public are invited to attend and are urged to bring photos or signs to highlight the loss of their loved ones to suicide.

This event is sponsored by Help Hotline Crisis Center, Inc., Survivors of Suicide of Mahoning and Columbiana Counties, and Survivors of Suicide of Trumbull County.

Naturalist Larry Richardson will speak on “Beautiful Birds of the Diverse Mosquito Lake Area” at a free public program of the Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Canfield Library.
