Fourth-grade Dobbins students rocked through the decades during their concert on March 14 at Poland Seminary High School.

The students came dressed in clothing from their favorite decades, ready to show the audience what they have been rehearsing. Dean Wilson and Dana Veneksy worked with the students to teach them songs from the 1950’s to the 2000’s. The students also learned how to play the recorder to the songs along with dance routines.

The concert started out with a song from the 1950’s and hit each decade until they got to the 2000’s. During the 70’s, four girls made their way to the front of the stage and played inflatable guitars for one of the girl-band songs. One of the favorites of the night was the 1990’s. A group of boys formed a boy-band as they sang and danced along to “I Want it That Way,” by the Backstreet Boys.

There was a script written by Venesky and before each decade. A group of students walked to the front of the stage and talked about what the music was like in the decade and what song they were performing next.

Venesky said she was glad she had the opportunity to work with the students by teaching them songs and dances. She said it was more fun than it was work.

The students finished off their performance with the song “Rock and Roll is Here to Stay.”
