Staff report

CANFIELD

The final awards and recognitions banquet of the Boy Scouts of America Wapashuwi Lodge-Order of the Arrow is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road. Dinner is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by awards and recognitions from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.

This is the final Wapashuwi Lodge awards banquet because of the consolidation of Boy Scout councils in Northeast Ohio. The Greater Western Reserve Council closed Dec. 31, 2016.

The northern half of the former GWRC, which served Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake counties, will merge into the Greater Cleveland Council, and the southern half of GWRC, serving Mahoning, Trumbull and the eastern portion of Portage counties, will merge into the Great Trail Council with headquarters in Akron. Thus, Wapashuwi Lodge, which served GWRC will also cease to exist at the end of May.
