The Canfield Village Middle School Power of the Pen seventh- and eighth-grade teams competed in the Power of the Pen district tournament at Lordstown High School on Jan. 28. The Power of the Pen is Ohio’s Interscholastic Creative Writing Program for middle schools.
Eighth-grade team members included Chloe Deak, Bridget Fekety, Gwen Pfrenger, Samantha Hudock, Grace Li and Emily Mashqbeh.
Seventh-grade team members included Josh Farley, Lori Franklin, Jack Hrina, Aamna Khan, Bridget Kelly and Julie Mosure.
The Canfield Village Middle School eighth-grade team finished second out of 11 schools competing from three counties in the district competition.
Eighth-grade individual district placers included Emily Mashqbeh, first place; Bridget Fekety, second place; Grace Li, fifth place and Gwen Pfrenger, 12th place. Samantha Hudock earned Best of Round.
Seventh-grade individual district placers included Lori Franklin, seventh and Best of Round.
The eighth-grade team moved onto the regional competition at Malone University March 4, where they placed second out of 27 schools competing from seven counties.
Individual regional placers included Bridget Fekety, second, and Samantha Hudock earned Best of Round.
