STRUTHERS
Struthers Historical Society, 50 Terrace St., will host a celebration of Civil War veteran Alexander Frankfort from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Frankfort, who died in 1930, was Struthers’ last surviving Civil War veteran, according to the historical society. His former home is now the society’s headquarters.
The free event will feature homemade ice cream, historical re-enactors and a ropewalk sponsored by local Boy Scouts.
The society also is planning an All-Sports Calendar for 2017 featuring photographs of the best boy and girl sports teams from Struthers High School. To suggest a team, call Marian Kutlesa at 330-755-7189 by Saturday.
A second Christmas ornament by Wendell August Forge will feature the Hopewell Furnace. There will be a set of 12 to collect.
Both items will be for sale at the Struthers Rotary breakfast Nov. 6, and orders also will be taken at the number above.
